Agave Plants In New Orleans

In 1998, Mike Thompson planted an agave plant, also known as a century plant in his front yard on Esplanade Avenue.  In May of this year, the century plant started to bloom and grew its stalk at an incredible rate that could be noticed by the hour.  Mr. Thompson won’t be making tequila from this plant because the stalk has taken all the nutrients from the heart of the agave.  However, there could be more plants in his yard beginning his agave farm.
