Four hours in Philly 2009/04/28 03:27 Karma: 3
Was up in Philadelphia on business the other day. found myself with four hours to myself and went on a little tequila tasting tour of the city. Here are a few of my notes:

Las Bugambilias at 148 South Street– A small and quaint restaurant. The bartender says people come for the food. Unfortunately didn’t have any and just had some tequila. Tequila selection is much more than a usual bar and fits the small bar area they have.

Xochitl around the corner at 408 S. Second Street– great tequila selection and offers flights. Food is unique and just had an appetizer here. Served with sangrita which is homemade and contains pomegranate juice.

Mission Grill in City Center at 1835 Arch Street – They’ve decorated this place great and by 6pm on this Friday night, the bar was full. I got very good service at the bar for my El Tesoro blanco shot. Wouldn’t make this a tequila destination bar, but the people watching is very good.

Final stop Tequila’s at 1602 Locust Street. Greeted warmly by one of the owners and proceeded to work my way through their greater than 100 tequila selections. Found numerous tequilas I hadn’t tasted before and was recommended Carmessi reposado. Great choice. I was also treated to the barrel tasting of Siembra Azul Anejo – not yet released. Aged in American oak, smooth and delicious. Also tasted the reserved French oak aged Siembra Azul. 13 months of aging in virgin barrels gives it a feel of an extra añejo.

Let me know if you've had a chance to visit any of these places and what you think.
