Have you tried this 2008/12/17 14:10 Karma: 0
Hello Amigos, just wanted to know if you ever tried La Cofradia Reserva Especial Anejo or Esperanto Seleccion Anejo. The Esperanto Bottle, is really sharp looking. and the cost that they are trying to sell a 750ml is $120 Dollars while the La Cofradia is $47 Dollars for a 375 ml. Is this a little to much for the taste? or is it Worth grabbing up? Thanks

I've seen both bottles, but have not had a chance to purchase and/or taste either one.

Some drinkers swear by the NOM. If it produces one good tequila, all the tequilas are good. Some people say that some NOM's spread out their profile and quality to ensure they hit all possible consumers. I lean more toward the former, but have seen some evidence of the later.

With that in mind, the Esperanto has NOM 1109 and this is the same as Arette and Hacienda Mexicana. Arette has a pretty good reputation. I've had a sip of some Arette reposado and is wasn't bad. Not sure what to expect from Hacienda Mexicana. La Cofradia has NOM 1468. Casa Real is also produced there. I have no tasting information on Casa Real.

Are you tasting or building a collection. If you're tasting, maybe go with the smaller risk, La Cofadia. If you're building a collection, I can't imagine NOT having the Esperanto bottle-it is impressive, and like the Milagro agave bottles, you may be paying for presentation as well.

Enjoy Responsibly,

BTW-I am getting a little concerned with all the tequilas coming out with big price tags on the 375ml size. What's up with that?

I have just came back from a Christmas party in which I finished off a Bottle of Tres Generaciones Anejo with my Nephew. I wanted to prepare him for a different World other than the usual Bar Juervo Tequila he was accustomed to and him being part Mexican, I knew the passion for Tequila was in him. He is now one of us.

To answer your questions, At first I was a huge collector, just tasting from time to time. I have many bottles 3/4 full which is getting me a little worried about quality of a opened bottle ( my Herradura taste much smoother though at 4 years lol). Listening to you guys has really opened my eyes to whats out there along with what to try Tequila with. I now spend hours reading reviews and it's helped me to find great quality Tequilas that I want to taste and display without the heavy cost. Your right, the NOM is so important to learn. its the key many answers about the quality and production of fine tequilas

I will go with your suggestion and purchase La Cofradia(won't hurt the budget) it has won awards and Casa Noble comes from the same makers. Esperanto has a beautiful Bottle that would make a conversation piece in a second The Mayor of Mexico City officially named it the "Tequila of Mexico" also it having the Spirit of the Year award for 2007 brought it more to my attention. The reviews were highly mixed mostly stating poor quality for a Tequila that comes from the best Agave's of Jalisco and its just in the looks so a price tag of $120 Dollars is looking less appealing. I purchased $ 100 Bottle of Don Julio 1942 thinking that it was going to knock me on my feet but I love the taste of the Reposodo and Anejo at half the cost.

There most be a new hype with the Industry every things getting expensive, maybe Sammy Hagar had some thing to do with the price hikes. You put it music like Country and Rap then everyone wants it lol. thanks

3G's - Love it. Tasted their blanco and was blown away. For the price, it is practically unapproachable.

If you're in the $100 range, I would do you a disservice if I didn't mention El Tesoro Paradiso. It is incredible. I think this tequila is one of the best, no matter the price.

I'm also having trouble with lingering open bottles. I tried to not open new bottles until the old ones are done. But sometimes those new shiny bottles are sooooooo tempting! I've gotten my open stash down to about a dozen bottles, down from about 20. I think I've just figured out my New Year's resolution!

La Cofradia is NOM 1137.

I have had two bottles of the La Cofradia Anejo and think it is a decent Tequila for the money.
