4th Annual Tequila Tasting 2010/05/05 03:42 Karma: 3
Time flies when you're drinking tequila.

I thought this was the 3rd annual, but now realize it is the fourth.

Just got a delivery of El Gran Jubileo in for the tasting - Thanks Mike!!! We are going to have a vertical tasting of their tequilas. The anejo is actually a 5 year extra anejo. Hoping they are all enjoyable.

Other items on the tasting menu so far include infused tequilas. I haven't gone there before and think now is the time.

I have the Gran Centario Rosangel. I love their other tequilas and crossing my fingers for this. Also going with an infused tequila from VooDoo Tiki. Their repo and anejo are incredibly smooth so have high hopes for the pear tequila. This years flyer is a pink tequila from Intrigue that has cochineal extract.

Let me know about any flavored tequilas that you've come across.

I'm adding Hussong's repo and Oro Azul anejo to round out the tasting with tequilas that I believer are more "standard" and "available."

Hope to follow this post after Saturday's tasting with some results.

Just realized I left you hanging.....

The tasting was a fun time. About 30 people came and everyone found something of interest to them - so I'm calling it a success.

No clear winner, but the Hussong's was almost empty by the end of the tasting. The 5 year El Gran Jubileo and the Oro Azul Anejo also were "heavily tasted" as well.

My experiment with the flavored/colored tequila was hit and miss. Some people loved them and some people weren't interested in them at all.

I'm still shaping my opinion. I haven't found one that really makes me see why it should be flavored, but I'm open to trying it until I do. I don't think the flavors will take off like they did for Vodkas. Makes sense since tequila has more character to lose with additional flavoring than vodka does. Actually, vodka needs the crutch of flavor.

Will continue my campaign to make people realize tequila is good. The event may have tunred another 6 people to consider tequila!!

Enjoy Responsibly,

TTG

It is not.

There is one in San Diego from the Polished Palate at http://l.ecp01.com/customer/view_message.asp?campid=560054&customerguid=57840AA6431748D2A19558BA84EB89B7&clientguid=35424295482A484D98083B8222D39A53

and the one in Vegas is at http://www.lasvegastequilafest.com/home.html

I haven't had the pleasure of making it to either, but they both seem to be popular and informative
