Old bottle of Tequila 2008/09/28 11:33 Karma: 0
Ok I am new to the forum here, but I have a question, and I am sorry if this is in the wrong place here....

So I have this really old bottle of Tequila that I got from my uncle's house when he passed away, he bought it in Mexico, and the admin. fee was $0.25, I know they make this Tequila now(just in a different bottle), but I was wandering if there was a way to purchase the same bottle that I have now?? Is there a Liquor store that still sells these bottles or some way I can get a hold of one??? If anyone can help, please let me know, this Tequila is sentimental to my family, even thought that sounds a little weird, but I was trying to get a hold of it to surprise my family...the Brand is Centenario Extra, Tequila Cuervo...it has a angel on the front of the bottle....please someone help me!!!

Thanks,

Holly

Holly,

The simple answer is yes and no.

I guess that's not so simple.

Jose Cuervo used to produce Centenario tequila. I have a beautiful old bottle that is blue with an angel in the middle. I'll try to attach a picture. They made great tequila and beautiful bottles for this tequila. However, Jose Cuervo no longer sells this tequila. I believe the product line is now sold through another distributor and is sold under the Gran Centenario product line. http://thetequilaguy.com/tequilas_detail.php?ID=337 Their Leyenda, product is probably as close as you're going to get to this. Bottles of Leyenda costs about $250, so I hope your family appreciates your efforts.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Enjoy Responsibly,

TTG

The bottle the tequila guy has is the Centanario Gran Reserva...It was actually enver released in the US and is no longer made. That bottle is in fact not even that old. You can however, find it in Mexico. You will generally find it in duty free shops in airports for around $500. As far as the old bottle that you found, you won't find anything close to that. That bottle, if made by Cuervo was made at an entirely different time. For your, this means a few things. 1...It is most likely worth a good chunk of money. If you can leave a picture on the post, thatd be great and we could figure out what your tequila is worth. 2...That being said, do not open it. 3...You won't find anything like it or comparable. That tequila was made at a different time in the tequila industry and by an entirely different estate. This means that the methods where different, agave are different, and the recipe is different. I would save/store the bottle in a cool dry place with some a bottle sleeve so to protect it. Keep out of direct sunlight to preserve the label. Congrats on your bottle.

Looks like the bottle is open. Enjoy this unique tequila.

The closest you are going to get to this-in appearance, is the Gran Centenario Reposado. I give this tequila high marks and it is widely available for between $35 and $50 a bottle. You will not get the angel on top of the bottle, but I think your relatives will be impressed with the updated look of the tequila.
